“Teach my dog their name? How hard can that be?”
Well let me tell you.. it might be quite easy, but it is most defiantly vital.
It is something that they will pick up on their own because you will say it so much, but it is much better if you actually teach it to them straight away and with purpose.
So this shall be short and sweet
What you’ll need
- A quiet room/place with little to no distractions to start with
- Some small tasty treats (optional)
- plenty of praise and attention
How to
- You don’t have to start with your dog right next to you for this, but obviously close enough for the dog to hear you and respond
- Now simply say your dogs name, in a happy jolly voice.
- As soon as they look your way praise them (good girl/boy/dog) and treat if you would like.
- Wait a bit until they are not looking your way and repeat.
- They should pick it up pretty quick, this is not something you need to carve out a a training session for, just do it though out the day.
Important notes:
- Make sure when saying their name it is in a happy and upbeat voice, so that they associate it with only good things.
